Throughout this 2025-26 season, Giannis Antetokounmpo and his future became the topic of discussion almost every other day, and the frequency increased as the trade deadline came closer.

Everything was fueled by the thought that the Greek superstar was unhappy with the Milwaukee Bucks’ lackluster roster moves, which he allegedly felt were not good enough to help him in his quest to become a champion again.

After possible negotiations with the New York Knicks broke down, the Bucks apparently kept the door open, and soon it was reported that other teams had joined the negotiation table.

His mother fueled rumors of a possible trade to the Miami Heat, which left many analysts to speculate that a deal was almost on the horizon. Then, the Golden State Warriors appeared to have leapfrogged them.

A package involving Draymond Green was touted, and the four-time champion admitted that he could possibly leave the franchise that drafted him.

Then, that deal collapsed after the Bucks told the Warriors they were not accepting their proposal. Focus shifted back to the Heat and any other team that could get the deal done.

Legends don’t chase. They attract.

Insider claims Giannis Antetokounmpo never asked for a trade

With the trade deadline over, many felt that the Milwaukee Bucks did not do right by their leading superstar by not honoring his desire to play with a contender. However, another NBA Insider refuted those claims.

Sources close to me reiterated that he never requested a trade. Obviously, he’s been applying the pressure in the hopes that the Bucks will turn this roster into a championship-contending roster… Right now, he is happy. I was told that he’s committed, and focused on getting back healthy.

The insider claimed that the Milwaukee Bucks were just gathering intel on what the market for Giannis Antetokounmpo looked like. Therefore, it was not as if the two-time league MVP wanted to leave.

Rather, he has reiterated time and again that he wants to stay with the team that drafted him, and in the city that has given him so much. All he wants is to fight for titles, and his unhappiness was to put pressure on the front office to get him help.

At least for now, it seems the trade rumors will be put to rest. However, there is a chance they will restart once the offseason sets in, and the Bucks try to build a team around Antetokounmpo.

Doc Rivers joins Giannis Antetokounmpo to troll ESPN Insider

With all the news surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s apparent trade rumors formulating on ESPN, the Milwaukee Bucks head coach, Doc Rivers, decided to address it.

You guys want a Giannis update?… I was just talking about that he was going to coach the celebrity game… He did inform me that he’s going to put Shams on the trading block today, and he’s just going to listen for offers.

Doc Rivers told reporters

This was their way of poking fun at Shams Charania, ESPN’s lead insider, for apparently creating all the trade rumors surrounding the NBA champion forward when he has time and again made it clear he never asked to be moved.

Over the past three days, Antetokounmpo gave several indications that he was being discussed in the media despite not being a participant. But it seems ESPN and Charania did not care, as they felt their intel was worth pursuing.
