Giants “absolutely” want to draft Shedeur Sanders despite signing Russell Wilson

Shedeur Sanders is considered once in a lifetime quarterback prospect and even after signing three quarterbacks, the New York Giants are still tempted to draft the ex-Colorado QB.

The New York Giants can still draft Shedeur Sanders even after signing three quarterbacks in the offseason. Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Tommy DeVito.

Aaron Rodgers was the first choice for Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen, but the former New York Jets’ QB didn’t show any interest in returning to the Big Apple for a second stint. Rodgers preferred the Vikings and the Steelers.

After it became clear to Daboll that Rodgers was out of their hands, they signed Winston and Wilson. DeVito was re-signed. Now it raised a question on whether the Giants would still draft a quarterback, presumably Shedeur Sanders because they hold the third overall pick.

NFL draft expert, ESPN’s Matt Miller projected the Giants drafting Sanders at third. North Jersey.com contributor Art Stapelton, on the other hand, spoke with a few insiders in the Giants facility who told him anything is possible.

[The New York] Giants may end up taking a non-QB at 3, but sources I talk to with knowledge of their plans say Shedeur Sanders is ‘absolutely’ in play, and the team feels doubling up at QB was necessary with the way things have broken down in the room the last two years.

Giants receive Deion Sanders’ approval

Sanders has been in the spotlight for quite some time. The ex-Colorado quarterback’s confident demeanor and skill with the football singled him out from the rest of the crowd.

There was another reason Shedeur always stayed on the front pages. It’s his father and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. The Hall of Famer revolutionized the college football scene, and his son was at the center of it, creating headlines after headlines.

One of them was regarding the draft. Sanders announced that if he didn’t see an NFL team equipped with the necessary atmosphere and facility to nurture Shedeur, then he would encourage them to trade to a more quarterback-friendly franchise. Coach Prime’s view changed over time, and he recently suggested the Giants draft Shedeur Sanders.

A couple of days later, Deion Sanders appeared on the Skip Bayless Show and revealed that he would be ‘happy’ with whichever team drafts Shedeur Sanders.

If it’s New York [Giants], it’s New York. If it’s Tennessee [Titans], if it’s Cleveland [Browns], if it’s still the [Las Vegas] Raiders, if it’s New Orleans [Saints], if it’s any of those teams that are seeking a quarterback I’m happy with it man cause I know what he’s gonna do to the organization.

The Giants’ NFC East rivals might also target Shedeur Sanders

Daboll and Schoen may still have Sanders at the top of their shopping list for the draft, but that doesn’t mean it will happen. Other teams are also thinking along the same lines—the Browns, the Titans, and the Raiders.

While it will be a tug-of-war between the Browns and the Giants, another NFC team has thrown its name in the hat. The Giants’ divisional rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, are a team to keep an eye on. Even though the Cowboys have Dak Prescott on a $60 million per year payroll, trading him to a team like the Browns isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

The only obstacle to that move is the ‘no trade’ clause in Prescott’s contract. If Jones can convince Prescott to waive the clause and trade him to the Browns or maybe even the Titans and trade for their first picks in the draft, then the Cowboys will have a clear path to draft Shedeur Sanders.

Trading Prescott will take some of the load away from the Cowboys. They can then move on to making Micah Parsons one of the highest-paid pass rushers in the NFL.
