Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo joined a myriad of NFL talents in remembering Charlie Kirk after the right-leaning political activist was shot. The New York Giants’ rookies left impactful messages on social media.

The nation woke up to the tragic news of the death of Charlie Kirk on Wednesday. Kirk was hosting his first session of ‘Prove Me Wrong’ open table discussion during “The American Comeback Tour” event at Utah Valley University when an unknown assailant shot him in the neck.

A large section of the nearly 3000 students on the campus managed to capture the moment of Kirk’s death. A bullet reportedly pierced his neck.

However, the footage failed to document the assailant, leading the investigators to believe the shot was fired from a sniper rifle. The authorities held one individual for questioning, but they were granted permission to leave.

The Giants’ rookie quarterback, Jaxson Dart, posted a message on Instagram, condemning Kirk’s death.

“Praying for him and his family. Charlie did great things for our country!! Political Violence NEEDS TO STOP!! Pray for our country, man. This is disgusting and Sad!!!”

First-year running back Cam Skattebo said, “We need change” regarding the gun violence in America.

The Baltimore Ravens quarterback, Lamar Jackson, who found himself in hot water a couple of weeks ago for showing his support for Kirk, posted a tweet in solidarity with the 31-year-old’s death. Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker tweeted a long statement, condemning Kirk’s assassination.

Russell Wilson or Jaxson Dart? Giants must decide quickly

There was massive hype surrounding the Giants going into the 2025 NFL season. Daniel Jones was no longer in the building, and Brian Daboll brought in two veterans, Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Daboll further drafted Ole Miss graduate Jaxson Dart in the first round.

Wilson won the quarterback battle, but Dart left a positive impression on the Giants’ faithful during the preseason. Dart completed 400+ yards, four overall touchdowns, and zero turnovers as the Giants went undefeated.

Daboll named Dart as the backup to Wilson for the Giants’ opening day fixture against the Washington Commanders. The veteran play-caller fell flat in the fixture, completing 17 passes from 37 (threw just one pass that travelled 20+ yards but failed to connect with any receiver) for 168 yards and zero touchdowns, resulting in a 21-6 defeat for the Giants.

I’ve got confidence in Russ. We’ll go back and evaluate the tape. This game isn’t on Russell Wilson. It’s not on Russell Wilson. Let me make that clear. I have confidence in Russ. We have to do a better job all the way around.

However, there is already a demand for Daboll to bench Wilson and start Dart against the Dallas Cowboys.

You embrace challenge. I don’t think I run from challenges. I don’t think I run from anything. I know how confident I am in myself. I never blink. I know who I am and know what I bring to the table.

There’s still time for the Giants to think long and hard about their future. If that future is with Wilson, then they should continue to play the Super Bowl winner or rely on Dart, who can sling the ball hard and is nimble on his feet.
