The New York Giants cannot catch a break. The team made a strong 10-point comeback in their Week 10 matchup against the Carolina Panthers and tied the score up at 17 forcing overtime. The team won the coin toss and got the opportunity to win the game by getting a touchdown or scoring a field goal.
Unfortunately, this is when it all went wrong for the Giants. The team chose to run the ball on the first snap of overtime. Daniel Jones handed the ball off to rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. but he was brought down instantly and wound up fumbling the ball.
This fumble cost the Giants a win as the Panthers regained possession and went on to set themselves up in field goal range. The rookie was in tears when he went onto the sidelines and could be seen holding his head down while blaming himself.

Feel just awful for him, especially after he had an amazing game. Hope he has the right people around him to remind him that. pic.twitter.com/JeAkayckSa
Tyrone Tracy Jr. showed more heart in one game than Daniel Jones has shown the entire year
The rookie from Purdue had a good night otherwise as he had 103 yards on 18 carries and 1 touchdown. It was a costly mistake but in football, this happens and there are moments such as this that breaks the athlete’s spirit. But it then motivates them to work harder moving forward to ensure that they do not repeat the same mistake.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. has big shoes to fill. With Saquon Barkley’s departure, he is relied upon heavily, and to his credit, he is doing a good job so far. He has a lot of potential and room to grow. In his defense, the Giants would not have found themselves in an overtime situation if Daniel Jones had been able to throw as many touchdowns as he did interceptions and if Brian Daboll found a way to get this struggling offense going.
Tracy Jr. was selected as the 166th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. During his time at Purdue, he set a few records and etched his name into the history books. He averaged 6.3 yards per carry, the second-best rushing average in the school’s history, he led the team with nine touchdowns, and had three 100-yard games.
