Jameis Winston signed with the New York Giants with the hope that he would be the primary backup to Russell Wilson. That changed when rookie Jaxson Dart overtook him in the preseason.
When the organization promoted the Ole Miss star after watching Wilson struggle, Winston’s role was not defined. Dart led the team to two wins, and their overall performance despite their losses indicated that the franchise was about to turn a corner.
Then came their Week 10 game against the Chicago Bears, and what surprised everyone was how the coaching staff handled Jaxson Dart after he evidently suffered a concussion.
The onus was placed squarely on head coach Brian Daboll‘s head, and owner John Mara decided he had seen enough. He handed offensive coordinator Mike Kafka the keys to the team after dismissing Daboll.
Kafka’s first order of business was to assign a quarterback who would start against the Green Bay Packers at home. That job eventually went to Jameis Winston.
Jaxson Dart could be out for at least one week. Therefore, the starting job is now the veteran’s to lose. He has a flair for turnovers, but can also will a team to win.

Maybe that is why the interim head coach preferred him over Russell Wilson, who is currently the highest-paid non-QB1 amongst all quarterbacks in the league.
Fans have jokes after Jameis Winston gets the starting job
When the New York Giants signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, many felt the latter would play sometime during the season, especially if the Super Bowl-winning QB was struggling with poor performance or injuries.

The script has flipped, and now the franchise has made it clear they prefer him to start over Wilson. Hearing this news, fans brought out their jokes on social media.
They believe the 31-year-old is the best entertainer in the league and will ensure he continues doing that. Others wondered how Giants fans would react when they see Winston throwing multiple interceptions. Check out examples of those reactions below.

Jameis Winston should take this opportunity as he is also playing for his career. The Giants might appreciate him mentoring Dart, but they would also like him to place the team in a position to win.
Russell Wilson stays professional while talking about Jameis Winston becoming QB1
When news about Jameis Winston’s promotion rang everyone’s notifications, reporters wanted to know what Russell Wilson thought about the decision.
Obviously, I want to play, but Jameis has worked his butt off to give him a great opportunity. He’s a guy that’s played in this league for a long time, and he’s one of my closest friends. I know he’ll do a great job, and I’ll help him prepare in the best way possible.
Russell Wilson replied
The 36-year-old had recently partied with Winston during his wife’s surprise birthday party. Therefore, it was unlikely he was going to speak negatively about it, especially when one has seen how he reacts to every question.
Russell Wilson was asked how he reacted to Jameis Winston getting the start on Sunday:

It seems Wilson will bide his time and wait until he gets the next opportunity to play. It could come this season, or he may have to wait and see which team wants him.
