“Fire Daboll” – Giants’ terrible execution on a 2-point conversion attempt against Steelers has fans raising some serious concerns

Brian Daboll's choppy play calling for a two-point conversion backfired as Daniel Jones and Malik Nabers failed to connect in the Steelers game.

Brian Daboll’s playcalling has been called into question in almost every game in the past two seasons. Yet the New York Giants looked competent at Acrisure Stadium facing the Pittsburgh Steelers, with Daniel Jones keeping pace with Russell Wilson.

The game was being played at a good pace as it entered the final quarter. Calvin Austin scored his second touchdown (this was a receiving TD and the first one was a punt return TD) to increase the lead to eight points for the Steelers, but the Giants quickly closed the gap as Jones set up Tyrone Tracy Jr. for a 45-yard rushing touchdown.

With ten minutes left on the clock, Brian Daboll called for a two-point conversion. The Giants lined up near the five-yard mark but in a peculiar manner. They had five blockers for the play, which even included an extra running back shielding rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers from the Steelers blitz. The remaining players stood in front of Jones for the snap.

Center John Michael Schmitz Jr. snapped the ball to Jones, who then immediately hit Nabers with a dot. However, his blockers weren’t on the same page as Steelers pass rusher Alex Highsmith easily impeded Nabers’ run.

Football fans in shock after Brian Daboll’s poor play-calling cost the Giants a valuable win

The end product was not what the Giants fans had hoped. The additional two points would have closed the gap to six points. Both Jones and Nabers were visibly upset by the outcome.

There was clearly miscommunication among the Giants players, and it allowed Highsmith to stop them from scoring. The order came from Daboll, so the majority of the blame was directed right at him on social media.

There was still time for a late comeback, but Chris Boswell’s burying his fourth straight field goal on the night was enough for the Steelers to secure their sixth win of the season. The game ended 26-18. Jones finished with 24/38 completed passes for 264 yards and 1 interception. Nabers caught 7 passes for 71 yards while Darius Slayton had 4 for 108 yards. Tracy ran 20 times with the ball for 145 yards.

Daboll’s Giants are once again at the bottom of the pile in the NFC East after back-to-back losses. Unfortunately for the fans, unlike their green neighbors, their owner, John Mara, will not fire Daboll. So, they have to keep on enduring such plays.
