Giants WR Malik Nabers six-word reaction to fan’s ‘dumpster fire’ plane stunt

Neither Malik Nabers nor Brian Daboll bothered to elaborate on the plane's message directed at John Mara regarding the team's condition.

An enthusiastic New York Giants fan chose to vent his frustration in the most unique way possible. Before the Giants kicked off their Week 14 fixture against the New Orleans Saints, a plane flew over the MetLife Stadium with a banner asking owner John Mara to fix the ‘Dumpster Fire’ of a team.

The message did little to affect the outcome, as the Giants succumbed to a 14-11 defeat. It was the franchise’s 8th straight defeat this season (the second-longest active losing streak in the league, only behind the Las Vegas Raiders with nine).

During the post-game presser, Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, who had 5 catches for 79 yards in the game, faced queries about the plane and the message. Nabers’ expression suggested he was annoyed.

I ain’t paid for the plane.

Malik Nabers replied after a brief pause

Although it’s his first year in the NFL, Nabers has not shied away from making his voice heard. The consensus was that former quarterback Daniel Jones was primarily the reason behind the Giants’ struggles in the last few years, but the situation remains exactly the same even after his departure.

Nabers previously tried to attract the front office’s attention by highlighting it wasn’t a quarterback issue, but they lack the killer edge in the offense.

Brian Daboll addressed the message displayed by the plane

The Giants out-gained the Saints on the day but failed to increase the numbers where it mattered the most. On top of it, they gave away 12 penalties, which was double the amount the Saints conceded.

It wasn’t a great game for the neutrals by any stretch of the imagination. Drew Lock, who replaced Jones and then Tommy DeVito, completed just 42.8% of his passes, including one interception.

The result only increased the heat on Head Coach Brian Daboll. The reporters also asked him the same question as Nabers about the plane.

Look we have won two games. [So I am] not happy either.

Brian Daboll replied

The Giants are reaping the effects of not drafting a quarterback in the 2024 draft. General manager John Schoen spent countless hours scouting during the college games but eventually opted to strengthen the team around Jones, but nothing changed from last year.

Moreover, they let Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley leave, who now leads the league in rushing yards and eclipsed LeSean McCoy to become the Philadelphia Eagles’ single-season rushing yards leader. Mara never wanted to let Barkley leave, let alone play for rival Eagles (11-2).

Even Jones found a better deal by signing with the Minnesota Vikings (11-2). The Duke University graduate is in a position to be the Vikings starting quarterback next season, as current signal caller Sam Darnold doesn’t have a contract beyond 2024.

As for the Giants, they are eyeing a quarterback in the draft. Their top target is Colorado quarterback and Johnny Unitas Trophy winner Shedeur Sanders. According to several mock drafts, realistically they can draft either Texas’ Quinn Ewers or Georgia’s Carson Beck.
