Controversial and outspoken former player, Gilbert Arenas is back again with a fresh take that has caused a stir among fans. On a recent episode of his podcast, Gil’s Arena, he shared a story about 2000s NBA veteran Tim Thomas, who influenced NBA fashion by wearing a double-headband during games.

However, this style, despite being popular, was banned by the league. Gilbert Arenas then claimed it was to make way for NBA-issued products like dual-color headbands that could be marketed and sold to fans.

Didn't they ban (double headbands) because of (Tim Thomas)? What he would do is if the Bucks' colors were white and purple, he'd wear a white headband with a purple one on top. What did the NBA do after that? They made a double-color headband. Even with the Iverson sleeve, they banned it so they could sell it.

While it can’t be confirmed if Agent Zero had his facts straight, it merely proves that the NBA was concerned about aligning its image to appeal to its global base. Hence, the restriction on what players could wear before and during games.

It’s, however, not old news in the league, as the league once got embroiled in a dispute with NBA legend Michael Jordan due to the choice of his shoes. But, one thing is certain, fans still love the idea of fans arriving at the stadium with how they see fit.

Gilbert Arenas showers praise on Mavericks Luka Doncic

Aside from being on the controversial side of things, Gilbert Arenas knows when to say his truth when called upon. On his podcast, he praised Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic and predicted how he would fare in the new season.

Arenas thinks that the Slovenian will be the first player since the Washington Wizard Russell Westbrook to hit a triple-double. A feat that would be possible as the 2024 scoring champion would be playing the new season with a point to prove.

I'd be surprised if he don't average a triple-double… He will probably be the number one candidate for MVP. He's going to do something that hasn't been done in a few years, and that's average a triple-double.

Last season he led the Mavs to the NBA Finals with a regular season average of 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists. Moreover, with the addition of Klay Thompson, he should have more reason to play better than last season. It is expected that the trio of Klay Thompson, Luka Doncic, and Kyrie Irving have the potential to win the title for the Mavs.
