Gilbert Arenas uncovers shocking Michael Jordan request to join Larry Bird
Gilbert Arenas is gathering evidence to go up against Skip Bayless in the Michael Jordan vs LeBron James GOAT sweepstakes.

Michael Jordan was willing to take a pay cut to bring in Larry Bird
Basketball fans consider Michael Jordan as the greatest of all time. One of the most important factors that went into that notion is that he won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls while playing mostly alongside players who the team drafted.
Some argue that Scottie Pippen was an All-NBA player, therefore even if he was drafted, Jordan had help. Then there were Toni Kukoc and Dennis Rodman, who came in to be a part of the second three-peat squad.
Even then, many believe His Airness did not resort to teaming up with superstars from other teams. That makes him different from the likes of LeBron James, the other player who is constantly compared to Jordan.
The super team criticism has stuck by James, and many staunch followers of Jordan, such as Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith, use that to differentiate the two superstars. But now, former All-Star Gilbert Arenas uncovered something that could deflate Jordan’s supporters.
I got articles from when Boston was trying to trade Larry Bird to the Bulls. And Jordan said he will take a paycheck.
Gilbert Arenas
This was in reference to a quote from Michael Jordan himself in 1990, which said.
We’ll take him. I’d take a cut in pay. I make enough on outside stuff.

He found an 80s report where the Celtics were rumored to be shopping Larry Bird, and MJ said he’d take a pay cut for the Bulls to trade for him after losing to Bird repeatedly. 😮💨🔥 pic.twitter.com/dUrBSE2n8t
MJ: “I’D LOVE TO SEE LARRY BIRD AS A BULL”

MJ would never “team up” with great players, right? He wanted to “BEAT the best, not join them.”
So when the Celtics were looking at trading Bird in 1990…what did MJ say?
“We’ll take him.” 😳
He even offered to take a pay cut.

A myriad of publications from back in the day ran this quote on their sports pages. This means, the then 6-time All-Star was willing to take a pay cut to facilitate the trade to land the then 9-time All-Star Larry Bird.
Gilbert Arenas gathering evidence to pounce on Skip Bayless
Skip Bayless first taunted Gilbert Arenas by suggesting that he did not know Pro Basketball the way the former Undisputed host does. This came about after the former three-time All-Star claimed that Bayless and others were critiquing LeBron James without knowing how basketball works.
This brought out a response from Arenas, who suggested that the likes of Bayless pinpoint something and continue talking about it. Instead, they should use all the facts available and then form an opinion. Soon, Skip Bayless went on to his X to write this.
Gilbert Arenas has responded to me. It sounds like we might do a 1 on 1 home and home, my show/his show, debating/discussing LeBron. Can’t wait.

This means some time down the line, the two will probably go head-to-head. Since both are based out of Los Angeles, it is possible that this debate happens sometime soon. But before that, the above revelation shows that Gilbert Arenas is gathering evidence. Evidence that will help him prove Bayless is wrong.
Michael Jordan vs LeBron James GOAT debate turning to a war of words
The debate regarding Michael Jordan, LeBron James and the GOAT conversation has taken a heated turn over the past few weeks. On one hand, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar criticized media members for constantly berating current generation stars.
He believed the media were hypocritical, considering they did not follow this same method when they covered Jordan or anyone in that era. Instead, that era is celebrated. Some of the veteran journalists such as Bayless and Stephen A. Smith compare everyone in the NBA with players from that era.
After Smith slammed James’ criticism, Gilbert Arenas was sitting alongside him in the ESPN studios. He mentioned the very same thing James said about their hypocritical nature. That discourse has had a hand in the confrontation James had with Smith during a game.
NBA legend Charles Barkley has not faced any current player in this battle. But he is facing heat from fans for his constant criticism of everybody. Now with Arenas taking on Bayless, the GOAT debate and the discourse surrounding it is reaching a point where new age media is challenging old media.
