Gilbert Burns is undefeated in the Welterweight division

UFC Welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns took to Twitter and shared his distaste for the recent UFC rankings. The Brazilian fighter is on his way to face off against Kamaru Usman in December 2020. The two were previously slated to fight at UFC 251 before Burns was pulled from the card after testing positive for COVID-19. Burns lately showed his dismay with Colby Covington ranking higher than him in the Welterweight ranking.

The Welterweight contender is undefeated at 170 lbs., and his six-fight win streak includes victories over Demian Maia and Tyron Woodley. His run has been impressive enough that Dana White confirmed Burns as next in line for the shot, siding with the Brazilian over potentially more lucrative match ups like a Jorge Masvidal rematch.

Gilbert Burns enraged by Colby Covington’s ranking snub

Gilbert Burns was far from pleased when it was revealed the Colby Covington has ranked ahead of him. He was frustrated by the fact that the future title challenger slipped below the number one ranking spot at 170-pounds. Chiefly, Burns seems to be concerned about Covington sliding into his long-awaited UFC title shot against Usman.

Burns wrote, “U gotta be kidding me! I beat Woodley when he was N1, than Colby came watches my fight do what I did n now he ranks higher than me? He just beat the number 5 and a guy coming from 2 loses n without a soul! Who does this Rankings?”

Covington now has those same wins, alongside victories over men like Robbie Lawler, Rafael dos Anjos, and Dong Hyun Kim.

Regardless, the Welterweight division is heating up in a big way, so hopefully fights start getting booked sooner rather than later. Almost all of the top names are not booked yet. Leading to plenty of potential match ups to be made.
