Gilles Simon comes in support of Novak Djokovic’s PTPA and criticizes ATP

Since the last year, players on the tour have taken sides either with the ATP or Novak Djokovic’s PTPA. Many players including some top names have also joined PTPA.
PTPA or the Professional Tennis Players Association was started by World No.1 Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil last year. They alleged that players don’t have a say in the decisions taken by the ATP and the tournaments, and so decided to go ahead with a new association to better represent the players on the ATP and WTA Tour.
The PTPA is currently at daggers drawn with the ATP on the issue of prize money reductions and a better wage deal for players in the new normal post the COVID-19 pandemic.
ATP is more about tournaments than players: Gilles Simon
French tennis star Gilles Simon has shared his thoughts on the Professional Tennis Players’ Association (PTPA). He has backed Novak Djokovic’s PTPA, saying he has always been an advocate for an association of players only.
Speaking to a French portal, the 36-year-old said, “I never hid it. I’ve always said ATP is more about tournaments than players. And I repeat, the situation (prize money cuts) illustrates this very well.”
However, the Frenchman said he is resigned to the fact that “nothing will change.” Novak Djokovic and Gilles Simon will both be back on the Clay season and will look to win big.
