Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell had a very poor outing in IPL 2020 held in UAE. He played 13 matches for Kings XI Punjab and managed to score just 108 runs at an average of 15.42 at a strike rate of 101.88. He goes by the name “Big Show” thanks to his boundary-smashing exploits. However, the batsman couldn’t even hit a six in the entire tournament.

Former India opener, Virender Sehwag didn’t mince his words in his assessment of Maxwell’s performance. The 42-year old labelled the Aussie as a “10-crore cheerleader” in a social media post. Sehwag went as far as saying that Maxwell was on a “highly paid vacation” in UAE.

Glenn Maxwell has finally responded to the remark. However he didn’t get into a mud-slinging match with Sehwag. Instead Maxwell brushed the remarks aside and said that he took it “with a grain of salt“.

It’s ok. Viru is pretty outspoken with his dislike of me, and that’s fine. He’s allowed to say whatever he likes,” he was quoted as saying by The West Australian. “He’s in the media for such statements, so that’s fine. I deal with that and move on, and take it with a grain of salt with Sehwag,” he added.

Glenn Maxwell had taken a brief break from cricket owing to mental health issues. He said the time-off helped him deal with these sorts of issues. “I think I’m better equipped with dealing with those sorts of things now,” Maxwell said.

He further explained how this year had been a “massive test” for him. “I think in hindsight it was a pretty good time to go through something like that where I was able to put some groundwork in to deal with adversity. This year has certainly been a massive test of it,”

Glenn Maxwell is a part of the ODI and T20 Australian squads for the India vs Australia tour. The bilateral series will begin with the first ODI on November 27 in Sydney.
