Australian cricket star Glenn Maxwell shattered records en route to his blistering 48-ball hundred in the ongoing 2025 Major League Cricket season. The 36-year-old in this process, also equaled Rohit Sharma and David Warner, on the list of players with most T20 hundreds.

Glenn Maxwell delivered a stunning performance for his MLC side Washington Freedom, in their third match of the season against Los Angeles Knight Riders. He smashed an unbeaten 106 runs off just 49 deliveries, at the Oakland Coliseum in California. Coming off the back of a dismal IPL season, Maxwell scored runs at a strike-rate of 216.33, hitting two fours and an astonishing 13 sixes in his innings.

The Australian all-rounder, who has also been entrusted with the responsibility to lead the defending MLC champions, helped his side post a massive first innings total of 208 runs. He single handedly turned the tide in favor of Freedom, who struggled initially after losing some quick early wickets. Apart from opener Mitchell Owen, who scored a quick-fire 11-ball 32, four out of the top five failed to cross the 20-run mark.

LAKR were bowled out within 16.4 overs with just 96 runs on the board, as they lost the match by 113 runs. Jack Edwards and Mitchell Owen scalped three wickets each for Washington Freedom, while US pacer Saurabh Netravalkar returned with figures of 2 for 6 in his unfinished four over spell. The win helped Freedom move up to third on the table, with two wins from three matches this season.

Maxwell’s innings marked his eighth T20 century, equalling Rohit Sharma, Jos Buttler, Aaron Finch, David Warner and Michael Klinger on the list of players with most T20 hundreds. These six players are, however, way behind former West Indies opener Chris Gayle, who has 22 T20 hundreds to his name. The ‘Universe Boss’ is followed by Babar Azam (11), Rilee Rossouw (9) and Virat Kohli (9) on the list.

The ex-RCB star also raced past 10,500 runs in T20 cricket, making him only the third Australian player after Finch and Warner to achieve the feat. Maxwell now has 10,574 runs from 469 matches, at a strike rate of 154.70. Interestingly, he also has 178 wickets in his tally. He also became the first player in T20 cricket history to have a triple of 10,500 runs, 170-plus wickets and five-plus hundreds in the format.

Moreover, Glenn Maxwell’s batting display also reminded fans of his 2023 ODI World Cup heroics, where he played a match-winning knock of 201 runs off 128 balls, against Afghanistan. In that tournament, he also recorded the fastest century in World Cup history, bringing up a century in just 40 balls against Netherlands.

Glenn Maxwell Apologizes to Ricky Ponting for Having Let Him Down in the IPL

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell, after scoring a brilliant 48-ball century for Washington Freedom in the MLC, apologized to Australian legend and head coach Ricky Ponting for having let him down. Ponting and Maxwell have linked up for Washington Freedom, in the MLC this season.

Maxwell opened up on letting coach Ricky Ponting down during his two stints under the former Australian skipper in the IPL, at Punjab Kings in 2025, and Delhi Capitals in 2018. He explained that despite feeling he was hitting the ball well in India, his confidence did not translate into big scores. Maxwell admitted that he particularly let Ponting down during the 2025 IPL season, as he missed the latter stages:

Sometimes the results don’t go your way. I have let him down in a couple of tournaments. I missed out playing for Punjab in the later stages of the IPL.

Glenn Maxwell indeed had a disappointing IPL 2025 season, where he managed to score 48 runs from six innings at a poor average of just 8.00 and a strike rate of 97.96. The 36-year-old all-rounder was subsequently dropped from PBKS starting XI, and later withdrew due to an injury.
