Glenn Maxwell was a part of Australia’s 2023 ODI World Cup winning team, beating hosts India. The Australian captain, Pat Cummins, claimed he wanted to silence the home crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium and he did that. The Indian fans were silent as they watched the Australians clinch their 6th World Cup title. Months later, another Australian told the crowd in Ahmedabad to be silent.
Glenn Maxwell returned to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) playing XI on 28th April as they played Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. This was his first match since he announced that he was going to take a break to improve his mental and physical health.
RCB won the game with ease by chasing down 201 in 16 overs with Virat Kohli’s 70* and Will Jacks’ 100*. Maxwell, who was padded up and sitting in the dugout, walked back to the dressing room and met some GT fans. Deciding to have some fun, the all-rounder “shushed” the fans. He then made them chant “RCB”, pointing at the RCB badge.
Glenn Maxwell’s 2024 IPL
Glenn Maxwell has had a dreadful 2024 IPL. The Australian all-rounder has managed only 32 runs in seven innings, with an average of 5.33. He was dismissed for three ducks, with a high score of only 28. He did well with the ball though, taking five wickets with an average of 20.80.
Maxwell was suddenly dropped when RCB played Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). After losing to SRH, Maxwell revealed that he has asked the RCB management to drop him from the side. He added that he was going to take a break from the side to improve his mental and physical health.
Maxwell finally returned to RCB when they played GT. He didn’t get a chance to bat, but picked up the wicket of Shubman Gill.
