‘I’m 41 and I’ll do everything I can to win this belt’ – Glover Teixeira ready for one last ride

Glover Teixeira is 41 years old and is still going strong. The Brazilian light-heavyweight veteran is currently the number one ranked light-heavyweight contender, and is looking forward to one final run at the title. Glover also holds the UFC all-time records for most submission and most finishes in the Light-Heavyweight division.

Elsewhere Jan Blachowicz successfully defended his light-heavyweight belt against middleweight king Israel Adesanya at UFC 259, thereby setting up a possible title defense against Glover Teixeira.Speaking about his future fight plans in an interview with MMA Fighting, the soft-spoken Glover Teixeira felt that fighting Israel Adesanya would have been more difficult than fighting Jan Blachowicz since his style is suited to fighting Jan.

Blachowicz winning was great for me

Teixeira was quoted as saying, “Blachowicz winning was great for me. Because if Adesanya wins, we’d be wondering what’s going to happen, if he would defend the 185 title first. Blachowicz came to me and said, ‘You’re next,’ so that was perfect. I made weight, I’m in shape, I was ready to fight, so it’s not like I still have to get in shape to fight him.” [via MMA Fighting]

Speaking about his age catching up and Blachowicz’s fighting style, Teixeira said, “I made sure to wait. No problem. This is my last chance. Everybody knows that, I know that. I’m 41 and I’ll do everything I can to win this belt. Let’s make history. I think Blachowicz’s style is easier [than Adesanya’s] for me. It’s dangerous, but both are. Anyone is. With good accuracy, the right timing, you go down. But Blachowicz waits more, trades strikes without moving too much, and he will accept a grappling fight more as well. I think it’s a better matchup. I prefer to fight someone like that more than someone that moves too much.” [via MMA Fighting]

What do you think the future has in-store for Glover Teixeira? Can he claim the title at the ripe old age of 41?
