England wicket-keeper batter Phil Salt took an absolutely stunning one-handed catch while playing for the Manchester Originals against the Trent Rockets in The Hundred. Salt’s incredible catch, which dismissed Trent Rockets’ Max Holden, was an acrobatic display of skill.

Struggling Manchester Originals, who had only won two of their first five matches, faced off against the Trent Rockets in the ongoing 2025 Hundred season. Led by England opener Phil Salt, the Originals once again suffered a disappointing seven-wicket defeat, their fourth of the season. The Rockets, on the other hand, climbed to second place in the standings with their fourth win, accumulating 16 points till now.

Batting first, Manchester could only manage to score 98 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Lewis Gregory was the only player to score more than 20 runs for the visitors, making 33 off 21 balls with two sixes and two boundaries. For Trent, David Willey was the star bowler, claiming three wickets. Rehan Ahmed and Sam Cook each finished with two wickets, and Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis took one.

In response, Trent chased down the paltry 99-run target in just 74 balls. 21-year-old Rehan Ahmed starred with the bat as well, scoring a match-winning 45 runs off 35 balls, including five fours and two sixes, while Tom Moores assisted him with a quick-fire 22 off 13 balls. While the Originals were well behind in the game, their captain, Phil Salt, produced a moment of magic that brought some joy to the team’s fans.

Off the 48th ball, England pacer Josh Tongue bowled a well-disguised slower delivery to Max Holden, who was batting on just seven runs. Holden tried to drive the ball straight down the ground but misjudged the shot. The ball flew straight towards Phil Salt, who was positioned at mid-off. Although it seemed to be a really difficult catch for the England opener as the ball was far to his right, Salt gave it his best effort.

With his eyes fixed on the ball, Phil Salt made an outrageous leap to his right, diving brilliantly with his body fully stretched to pull off a blinder. He grabbed the ball with only his right hand while still airborne to send Holden back to the pavilion in a gravity-defying moment. Salt also managed to maintain his composure, rolling safely on the ground without letting the ball touch the surface.

Phil Salt’s quick reflexes even left commentator Simon Doull stunned, given the 28-year-old spends most of his time behind the stumps. His fielding brilliance was widely praised, with the Salt having previously showcased his skills by taking a match-winning catch in the 2025 IPL final for RCB, against PBKS.

Phil Salt Endures Average 2025 The Hundred Campaign, Despite Becoming League’s All-Time Top Run-Getter

Earlier in the season, however, Phil Salt became the first batsman in the competition’s history to score over 1,000 runs.
