Wrestling icon Bill Goldberg is on the cusp of wrestling his last match for WWE. He’s working out and getting into that ring shape that he’d sorely need in due time. Quite recently, the 58-year-old joined The Claw Pod to discuss a variety of topics. Slightly into the conversation, the Tulsa native got asked about his current relationship with Brock Lesnar.

Goldberg said that both of them have been cordial and mutually respectful for a long time. Da Man applauded his WWE rival for being a highly competitive human being who just never turns off. Moreover, Goldberg quipped that The Beast’s enjoyment is all about detaching himself, and that friendship was not over if it meant no contact.

We’re good friends man. We don’t keep in contact that much because he’s a recluse. His enjoyment is keeping away from the human race.

Goldberg and Lesnar are two of those rare wrestlers to have gotten the opportunity to share the ring with each other at WrestleMania, not once but twice. They locked horns for the first time at WrestleMania XX with Steve Austin as the special guest referee. Lesnar ended up losing that night.

Thirteen years later, the stars aligned for them to collide at the grandest stage again. Both superstars took years of break from the WWE, only to return in the 2010s. At WrestleMania 33, Lesnar dethroned Goldberg, the then-Universal Champion, to avenge his Mania loss from 2004.

The Beast Incarnate had succumbed to stifling embarrassment prior to that win over Goldberg. The latter dispatched the 10-time world champion in merely 86 seconds at Survivor Series in 2016. Goldberg would then go on to eliminate Lesnar from the Royal Rumble match to add to his woes. The former UFC ace, however, had the last laugh.

Goldberg wanted to have his retirement match in Israel

While not confirmed, Goldberg is reportedly going to have his WWE retirement match conducted on July 12 in Atlanta, Georgia. WWE has announced its next Saturday Night’s Main Event show for that date. It’ll emanate from the State Farm Arena, and Goldberg will get to compete in front of his own people.

However, in the aforementioned interview with The Claw Pod, the former Universal Champion said he dreamt of retiring in Israel. But, in the wake of the perennial-seeming Israel-Gaza Strip conflict, Goldberg had to pull back on it. The latter is disappointed knowing that his wrestling swan song can’t be staged in Israel, the holy place for Jews, and for the unversed, Goldberg has a Jewish ancestry as well.

Even though that ship has sailed for now, Da Man asserted that being retired doesn’t mean dead by any stretch. It seems like the WCW legend is hellbent on doing something in Israel once the situation de-escalates. Speaking of who could be the former defensive tackle’s last match opponent, Gunther‘s name has been broached internally in that regard. They were involved in a heated segment at Bad Blood 2024.

Goldberg is appreciative of Brock Lesnar’s evolution in WWE

The last time Brock Lesnar was seen on WWE television was back at SummerSlam 2023. He had lost to Cody Rhodes, which was the third and decisive match of their brutal trilogy. The Beast garnered enormous praise from the fans for putting over The American Nightmare in that feud, which was a massive confidence booster for Rhodes.

Another such instance where Lesnar didn’t flinch losing his credibility and pitched to lose to Goldberg in 86 seconds was something the latter talked about very fondly. Bill Goldberg told Chris Van Vliet on Insight that it was Lesnar’s idea to lose to him that quickly.

For what it’s worth, that ending received widespread attention, let alone the lapsed wrestling audience that tuned back into WWE at the time. Goldberg appreciated The Beast Incarnate for evolving in this business like he did. He even praised the former UFC champion for his mini babyface run where he’d pull up in a cowboy hat.
