“Apology was such horsesh*t” – Pat Perez voices his opinion on Phil Mickelson episode
Pat Perez and Phil Mickelson
Pat Perez has blasted fellow tour pro Phil Mickelson for the apology on his earlier remarks on the PGA Tour. The six-time major champion had voted for the proposed Saudi-backed Super Golf League, which made him receive massive criticism from the golf fraternity.
During a recent interaction with former PGA Tour pro Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz on GOLF’s Subpar podcast, Perez looked in candour as is his nature.
“His apology was such horsesh*t, in the fact that he thought he was trying to make it better for the players.” Perez told hosts Knost and Stoltz. “He was in it for one reason. If anybody thinks he wasn’t in it for his own pocket, and his pocket only, is f—ing high. They are f—ing crazy.
“He was in it for himself. Why he went down two different avenues and basically buried himself on both, I can’t figure it out.”
“Am deeply sorry for my choice of words” – Mickelson
Earlier, Phil had announced a break from golf after a lengthy apology over “reckless” comments and stated that he “sincerely regrets” some of the words he has used when earlier discussing the subject in the media.
“They’re scary motherf****rs to get involved with,” Mickelson told the writer while putting forward serious allegations against the Tour. “We know they killed [Washington Post columnist and U.S. resident Jamal] Khashoggi and have a horrible record on human rights. They execute people over there for being gay.
Mickelson, 51, who is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, found himself in hot water after these comments were made to author Alan Shipnuck, whose unauthorized biography on Mickelson comes out in May.
“I used words I sincerely regret,” Mickelson wrote. “It was reckless, I offended people, and I am deeply sorry for my choice of words.”
