“Didn’t see this one coming” – Rich Beem reacts to Tiger Woods’ potential return at The Masters

Legendary Tiger Woods might just play at The Masters this week, marking his potential return from injury. He hasn’t played any professional tournament since suffering career-threatening leg injuries in a car crash last February.

Meanwhile, former PGA champion and Sky Sports golf expert Rich Beem has stated that he didn’t expect the 46-year-old Woods to make a comeback on such a difficult golf course. Been mentioned that stabilising your body when you’re making your swing off of these hills that pitch front to back, sideways, downhill – all over the place is not an easy job.

Rich said: “I’ve got to say, I did not see this one coming. When I heard last week that he [Tiger] was coming to Augusta National to get a practice round in, alongside his son and Justin Thomas, I thought ‘well, this is kind of interesting’”.

“This is one of the golf courses I never expected to see him make his comeback on, as it’s a difficult walk, to say the least, and then to try and stabilise your body when you’re making your swing off of these hills that pitch front to back, sideways, downhill – all over the place.

“Obviously, only one person knows whether his body can handle it and that is Tiger himself. It will be interesting to see what his preparation looks like over the next couple of days,” he added.

“If Tiger wins, it would be the biggest comeback in sport”

Tiger Woods earlier practised at Augusta on Monday as the golfing world still awaits his “game-time decision” on whether or not to compete in a first major tournament after such a long break.

Where he was a year ago right now, possibly losing his leg, nobody thought coming back to play this soon would even be a possibility – much less a probability, which is what it is looking like right now.

“If he was to win it, it would have to be the biggest comeback in sport – beyond reality,” the 51-year-old signed off.
