Veteran golfer Tiger Woods hasn’t yet revealed whether he will play at The Masters this week. His probable return from injury in the tournament, scheduled from April 7 onwards, since suffering career-threatening leg injuries in a car crash last February.

Meanwhile, Woods’ compatriot Patrick Cantlay believes the 46-year-old’s participation at Augusta National would be “the greatest thing” for the sport. The California native stated that Tiger is far superior to almost all golfers he’s seen since the legendary Jack Nicklaus

“I think seeing him being so far superior to almost any golfer since (Jack) Nicklaus,” the world No 5 said on Monday, as quoted by Sky Sports. “Naturally you become inspired by that type of performance and dedication to the mastery of anything.”

He added: “So for someone that’s dedicated most of their life to playing golf as well as I can, seeing someone who has come as close as anyone else to mastering the game, I think that’s admirable.

“I think he’s a good example of life’s not always perfect, and so it’s really exciting to see him on his highs. And so I hope that he is able to tee it up this week and play well, and obviously that’s the greatest thing for our sport. There’s definitely a different feel in tournaments that he tees it up in.”

Tiger Woods earlier practised at Augusta on Monday as the golfing world still awaits his call on whether or not to compete in a first major tournament after such a long break.

Recently, the GOAT put out a tweet in which the 15-time major winner confirmed that he will be heading to Augusta to continue his preparation for the Masters. However, he claims that his participation will be a “game-time decision”.

“I will be heading up to Augusta today to continue my preparation and practice. It will be a game-time decision on whether I compete. Congratulations to 16-year-old Anna Davis on an amazing win at the @anwagolf and good luck to all the kids in the @DriveChipPutt,” he wrote.
