The Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) points and LIV Golf are once the trending topic in golf. A few days ago, Spanish golfer Eugenio Chacarra sounded off on the breakaway tour after leaving them. A golf insider has now called out LIV Golf and claimed that Greg Norman seemingly “lied” to players regarding OWGR points.

In an interview with X account Flushing It, Chacarra mentioned how the league promised him OWGR points. LIV Golf do not receive these points. They had submitted an application for this but took it back last year.

With LIV Golf not receiving these points, the rankings of the players take a massive hit. This becomes a major obstacle in qualifying for the four major championships for some players as low rankings do not allow them enter into this competitions.

Golf insider Eamon Lynch would call out the league. In a discussion with Damon Hack on Golf Today, Lynch claimed that Greg Norman perhaps thought he could “bully” his way to get OWGR points.

Lynch would also recall the words of Carlos Ortiz from 2024. Just like Chacarra, Ortiz claimed that the league promised him that he would receive OWGR points.

They lied to these guys. It’s an outright lie because it wasn’t within their gift to give official World Golf Ranking points. Perhaps Greg Norman thought he could actually bully the World Ranking system into giving them points so that he would have a critical mass of players who would allow them to kind of strong-arm the World Golf Rankings and say, well you have to give ranking points to a Dustin Johnson or a Brooks Koepka or a Bryson DeChambeau.

Chacarra, who left the PIF-funded tour, now finds himself in a vulnerable spot. Golfers who joined LIV Golf had been slapped with heavy suspensions from the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour.

This means that the 24-year-old Spaniard has very less options at the moment. As per Lynch, he is gearing up to take part in an Asian Tour in India in a couple of weeks. It will probably take a while before he makes his way onto the European Tour.

Damon Hack slams Eugenio Chacarra for comparing himself with Ludvig Aberg

In the interview with Flushing It, Eugenio Chacarra spoke regarding Ludvig Aberg and seemingly compared himself with him. Golf Channel’s Damon Hack did not seem too pleased to hear this and slammed him.

Chacarra would skip the senior year of his college and jump to LIV Golf. Meanwhile, Aberg would join the PGA Tour after completing his University. Since joining the tour, the Swedish international has claimed victory on the tour, has been a runner-up in the Masters Tournament, and played an important part in Team Europe’s triumph at the Ryder Cup.

This is something that Chacarra wants too. Hack though was not having it. During the discussion with Eamon Lynch, he claimed that there is an “ego” involved in Chacarra’s statement regarding Aberg.

Well there’s ego involved in that because he compared Ludvig’s resume to his own. You know, we’ve both had success. We’ve both won on our respective tours. Everybody talks about Ludwig. Nobody talks about me. What an incredible statement… Clearly, Eugenio is having some similar pangs of a life he probably dreamed about for most of his youth. He took the bag and now he doesn’t have a place to play.

With the PGA Tour and PIF, the backers of LIV Golf, still in talks regarding a merger, a solution regarding the OWGR problem for the 54-hole circuit could be on its way. For now, LIV Golfers who have exemptions as past champions and those who get a special invitation are the only ones who will play in the four major championships.
