“Monetary Battle of Billionaires”: Golf legend Tiger Woods versus NBA’s all-time greatest Michael Jordan
Tiger Woods Michael Jordan
Tiger Woods is a legend of the game of golf who has topped the charts in most places including his on-course performance which has been reflected in his bank balance too. He not only has 15 majors to boast but also an iconic personality with regard to golf. The golfer often makes it to headlines for an array of reasons like philanthropy and his appearances among the fans for the love of his sport.
Michael Jordan on the other hand is considered the goat of all time when it comes to the NBA or Basketball in general. Many have come close to challenging him for the top spot such as Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. Although no one comes close to him when it comes to sponsorships. His deal alone with Nike is worth billions, although Nike too has benefitted from this close acquaintance with the superstar.
Both Tiger and Michael have garnered loads of fans and affection from around the world. But they have one more thing in common – the ‘Riches’ that have come to them courtesy of their talent and hard work. Here’s an attempt to sum up their wealth.
Does Michael Jordan edge out Tiger Woods in this battle
Tiger Woods went pro in 1996. And generally, it is uncommon to find good brands for sponsorship in the early career years. Although Tiger had already made a name for himself in the junior circuit, thus managing to turn some heads for the better. One such head was Nike, the ‘might’ of American footwear.
Woods was recently estimated by Forbes at $1 billion in terms of his life earnings. But this is not the whole story. What he earns from winning titles and accolades across the world is nothing compared to his earnings which come from the mammoth sponsorship deals. He also has profitable businesses under his TGR arm. One of them designs golf courses too.
Michael Jordan playing for the Chicago Bulls is an image that has been mapped onto the minds of the fans. As compared to Woods, MJ’s earnings have been clocked at $2.2bn by Forbes in 2022. with $93.7 million dollars only from his salary that too when he retired roughly two decades ago. If we put that in today’s perspective, it’s clear that MJ’s the richer of the two.
Although MJ’s not in mainstream news these days, He still earns tons loads of money through endorsements and stuff. Coming to the business side of his earnings, MJ is quite an entrepreneur. He also has invested in an NBA team, Charlotte Hornets, which supposedly took him over the billion-dollar mark.
MJ overtakes Woods by a clear margin but that does not make a difference or two for both the gems of their respective games. And same goes for their fans too, who love and worship them for their love of the game and inspiration, not for how much money their favorite sportsperson rakes in.
