The LIV Golf Hong Kong event saw several players jump up and down in the leaderboard. In a close fought final round, Abraham Ancer came out on top in a three-hole playoff match after he, Cameron Smith and Paul Casey finished the event while being tied for first place at 13-under.

The Mexican golfer had been on fire from the start and shoot 7 and 8-under respectively in the first two rounds. This saw him enter the final round with a five stroke lead.

However, things changed quickly on Sunday as he started to struggle a bit. Three bogeys in the final round saw Ancer lose his grip on the lead and allowed Casey and Smith to crawl back in contention.

In the end he pulled of the win in the first playoff hole while firing a birdie and claimed his first LIV Golf title since joining the PIF-funded tour in 2022.

It also turned out to be an emotional win for him as he recently opened up about the struggles he faced on LIV Golf. Apart from the title, the 33-year-old also claimed the $4 million cheque from the $25 million purse prize.

Abraham Ancer admits things could have gone different in final round

After failing to register a single win in over two years, the pressure was growing on Abraham Ancer to deliver. He finally did so in Hong Kong as despite posting a score of 2-over 72, his previous round showings helped him inch into a play-off round where he emerged victorious. The golfer though admitted that things could have gone different for him.

After the event, he spoke to the LIV Golf media and claimed he made it hard on himself out there on Sunday.

I made that so hard on myself. The ball striking wasn’t there, but mentally I was really strong. I felt like I was not going to give up. That round could have gone south really quickly and I hit some good bunker shots, some good putts that I needed to just kept myself in it. I hit the right shot at the right time there in the play-off.
