In a massive development on Wednesday, golf writer Alan Shipnuck dropped a huge statement regarding Jon Rahm. He would use the name of his nemesis, Phil Mickelson, and claim that the American golfer has been spreading the word that the Spaniard’s move to LIV Golf is a “done deal.”
Speculations regarding the future of Rahm had been going on for months now. The current Masters champion has denied this talk on several occasions. This got fueled even more when his name was removed from the TGL website. He, though, would later clarify the situation.
Shipnuck’s name has been on the rise since the release of excerpts from his book, ‘LIV or Let Die‘. In this, the author has dropped some huge claims regarding the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, and Mickelson. One of the big ones was about how the six-time Major champion was involved in the establishment of LIV Golf.
He has now once again made a controversial claim. In his tweet on X (formerly called Twitter), Shipnuck has called Mickelson a “salesman/b******t artist” while saying that both golf stars share the same agent.
In recent days Phil has been telling folks that Rahm signing with LIV is a done deal. (They share the same agent.) But we all know Mickelson is a relentless salesman/bullshit artist, so take that for what it's worth.Alan Shipnuck on X
Social media reactions to Alan Shipnuck’s claim on Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson
As soon as the tweet from Alan Shipnuck went viral, fans started flooding the scene with their responses. Jon Rahm, the current World No. 3 golfer, has previously claimed that he does not enjoy the format of LIV Golf. However, some of his close friends, including Sergio Garcia, play on the tour, thus increasing the speculation.
Fans on social media have been left divided by this. While some have claimed to be surprised by this decision of Rahm, some fired back at Shipnuck for using Phil Mickelson’s name. One confused wrote, “There’s a lot of smoke going on in here,” while referring to this situation. Check out that and some other reactions from below:
Another major reason for this speculation has been the announcement of the transfer window in the LIV Golf 2024 season. The league announced that teams can acquire and release some of the players from the team as they prepare for a huge year.
So far, no official confirmation regarding this has come up. Fans are now keeping their eyes on Rahm as the rumors regarding his move are likely to increase until he says something. One thing for sure is that if he does move away to the Saudi-funded tour, the PGA Tour would lose another one of their biggest stars in recent years.
