Billy Horschel is an American golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour. He has an impressive seven PGA wins over the span of his career, and is currently ranked fourth in the world. Horschel recently talked about his swing that he has been working on over the course of his career, all while taking an in-depth look at the 2022 Memorial Tournament.
“The foundation for me is so crucial. It is about 85 to 90% of my swing,” said Horschel, highlighting the importance of having a strong base. He said that if he does not feel comfortable with the set up, he would not feel committed to taking the swing at all. He emphasises the importance of placing his right hand just perfectly under the club in order to get good power from his shoulder.

A good set up allows Billy Horschel to feel his right arm and right shoulder behind him, while the club stays out in front of him. This also allows for the right hip and the right shoulder to turn out better, letting him complete the back swing all the way up. “I put my right foot back and then put out the club with my left hand. Then, I put my right hand on the club without allowing the right shoulder to get any closer,” said Horschel while talking about his right hand placement.
“To me it feels like I’m throwing or tossing a club.” The more the club is in the target line, the easier it is to hit the ball, said his swing coach. Horschel said that he worked on his swing routine on a daily basis, and that practice was the key to getting better at it.
