One of the PGA Tour’s ardent supporters, Brandel Chamblee, once again took to social media to voice out against Jon Rahm’s PGA Tour exit. Since the start of the Saudi-backed league, Chamblee has often criticized them pointing to “sportswashing”, and their unlimited fund.

In Jon Rahm’s recent LIV Golf signing, the golf commentator couldn’t hold back from blasting the Spaniard to changing his stance against LIV Golf. In 2022, Rahm said that he is playing golf to magnify his legacy; not for money. But his recent PGA exit proves otherwise.

Following his comments on LIV Golf, he admitted that money played an important part in his decision. Furthermore, he was promised captaincy in one of LIV’s teams as soon as he dons their custom-made jersey. The idea of leading a team on his own made a “very, very enticing” offer to Rahm.

Even though he was worried that his legacy would take a hit, he opted for that choice. He accepts taking “risk” for Ryder Cup and other event participation to accept LIV Golf’s offer. Brandel Chamblee following his comments stated that he “sold his career” for “half the price it would ultimately be worth” if he stayed with the PGA Tour.

I would still say he short-sided himself because he did sell his career for…half the price that it would ultimately be worth.

Brandel Chamblee states Jon Rahm’s signing with LIV Golf was like signing a marriage of convenience

The Golf Channel analyst did not stop there and further ripped Jon Rahm by saying that his contract sign with LIV Golf is almost like signing a contract in a marriage of convenience. “It was more convenient for him to do this,” Brandel Chamblee stated.

Chamblee said that professional golf is currently experiencing “something like Stockholm Syndrome” as it is being related to the Saudi-backed league. Furthermore, he couldn’t get over how much Jon Rahm’s opinion on the LIV Golf has changed since 2022.

Rahm said that his decision to shift from PGA was also due to his family. He chose the option that was best for him and his family. Although most of the players seem to be against the thought of World No.3 joining the Saud-backed league, Rory McIlroy has voiced his support for Rahm’s decision.

Surprisingly, McIlroy even stated that he wants the DP World Tour to bend and change its rule so it allows Rahm’s participation in Ryder Cup 2025 at Bethpage. Another pro golfer, Justin Rose said that Rahm’s signing with LIV is a double-edged sword. It weakened the traditional Tour immensely while strengthening LIV Golf.

The PGA-LIV merger is supposed to have its “framework agreement” by December 31. Jon Rahm’s switching amidst the chaos has dealt a hefty blow to the golf world. In the future, his involvement with LIV will surely make greater changes. It’ll be interesting to see what more the political war the sport of golf gets involved in the future; more so with the merger deal chaos ongoing.
