“It’s been a long road”- Brooks Koepka gets emotional after Jeddah victory
Brooks Koepka
Brooks Koepka turned sides to LIV Golf from the PGA Tour at a point when nearly the whole golf community thought that his career was over. Not just this, even Koepka himself felt pretty much crammed up in a situation where there was no looking forward.
Amidst all of this, the LIV kind of emerged as a lifesaver jacket to the golfer and he has started clawing his way back up again. All being said, there is some controversy about the Jeddah victory among the fans, with vagueness in the tournament that barely engages the audience.
Is this victory worth something? Well, Koepka for once feels that the individual one-on-one playoff gave his career the thrust he needed. The head-to-head on the 18th until there was a clear winner between Peter Uihlein and him, ended with Brooks’ birdie putt and Uihlein left with 12 under after the regulation 54 holes.
Brooks Koepka’s victory is another opportunity for him
Koepka has hit a rock bottom when playing for the PGA Tour. The player had to switch to play for the LIV which seems like a both redirection as well as a part of the lucrative sports tour. Koepka joins Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace, Henrik Stenson, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, and Eugenio Chacarra as individual winners in the new campaign.
The player when asked about his career reflected on the role coaster ride that his recent years have been. He said, “The last two years haven’t been fun, it’s been a long road. I didn’t know if my career was over for a half-second. I didn’t know if I was going to play.”
There is a lot of mixed emotion amongst the audience as the maiden campaign hits off. The fans seem proud that the player has again hit it off, but there isn’t much happiness as the newly introduced series hasn’t gained enough traction. They loved seeing the one-on-one appearances but then, the tour needs to go a long way to turn this into a concrete event.
