The LIV Golf 2023 season has now come to an end. In a thrilling finale in Miami, Bryson DeChambeau and his team – Crushers GC claimed the team championship crown after seeing off the RangeGoats. Their captain sealed the win after an impressive birdie on the 16th hole on Sunday.
DeChambeau had enjoyed a great season where he picked up two wins this season. He even recorded a low round score of 58, showcasing his immense talent on the golf field. The American golfer has now led his team to one of their greatest triumphs with an impressive performance on the greens.
The team consisting of him along with Paul Casey, Charles Howell, and Anirban Lahiri was impressive from the start. They dominated the opening proceedings and kept the pressure on their chasers. The other three members of the team contributed as well and the Crushers GC displayed a great team showing at the Trump Doral course.
Lahiri’s 7-under 65 and DeChambeau’s 5-under 67 helped the team finish with a score of 11-under 277 to seek off the runners-up RangeGoats GC led by Bubba Watson.
"We've been wanting to win this for a long time. I can't be happier with this team of mine. I don't know what else to say. I'm at a loss for words right now. They worked their butts off. ... I'm so ecstatic with this team".Bryson DeChambeau said via CBS Sports
How much money did Crushers GC claim from the $50 million purse?
One thing that has set LIV Golf apart from other tours is the money involved. Being backed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia, the tour has not been shy to splash the cash when needed. For this grand final, the purse had a staggering amount of $50 million. However, some fans are wondering how much money did the Crushers GC claim by winning the tournament.
Winning an event in golf sees the players earn a huge amount of money for their efforts. Since LIV Golf works in a team format, the pay structure is different. They collected $14 million as a result of their hard work. Around $8.4 million of this went into the team fund. Meanwhile, the players received $1.4 million for being victorious.
Whereas, the runners-up RangeGoats GC earned $8 million. The lowest prize share went to Iron Heads GC with $1.25 million as they finished dead last this season. They would be hoping for a better performance next season.
With the golf merger still being finalized, there could be a few changes to the LIV Golf next season in 2024. What will be the new features and changes is something that will only be revealed in the future.
