After American LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau expressed his unhappiness at not being selected for the top Ryder Cup squad, debate erupted in the golf community. After winning the LIV Chicago event handily, DeChambeau’s displeasure was on full display.
He said in his post-match news conference, “It would’ve bееn nicе to at lеast gеt a call. Thеrе’s numеrous pеoplе I think Zach should havе callеd out hеrе. Wе didn’t gеt that, and I gеt it, but wе’rе nothing diffеrеnt. ” Zach Johnson, the current U.S. Ryder Cup captain, is the “Zach” he was referring to.
DeChambeau’s remarks were sparked by his outstanding performance on Sunday, September 24, at the 2023 LIV Golf Chicago competition. He produced a spectacular round of 8-under 63. He won this match by one shot against Marc Leishman, securing the title. DeChambeau was left out of Team USA’s Ryder Cup selection despite his stellar performance on the LIV Golf circuit.

Why did Zach Johnson make this choice?
Zach Johnson responded to the debate by explaining his choice. He said that while assembling Team USA, he had concentrated on the top 20 to 25 players according to the scoring system.
DeChambeau could only accrue points for the U.S. team rankings in four events—the four major championships—due to his admission into the LIV Golf League, which disqualified him from playing on the PGA Tour. His T-4 result in the PGA Championship and T-20 finish at the U.S. Open stand out among them as his greatest performances.
Johnson went on to say that despite DeChambeau’s excellent streak of wins in two of the three tournaments on the Saudi-sponsored LIV Golf circuit, he had no remorse about leaving him off the US Ryder Cup squad.
The golfing world is awaiting a historic event as the 44th Ryder Cup approaches, with its first tournament scheduled to take place at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Italy. Wyndham Clark, Max Homa, and Scottie Scheffler are just a few of the famous players on the USA lineup, which is captained by Zach Johnson.
DeChambeau’s direct words drew some acclaim, but there was also a lot of backlash from both fans and opponents. “He won a joke tournament with like 50 some people in it. Lol.” one Twitter user joked in response. This opinion is similar to that of many others who think Bryson DeChambeau’s criticism of the captain’s choices may not be justified.
