Break from LIV: Cam Davis finds salvation in disc golf

Cam Davis

If you have a 9-5 job, you find an escape route to freshen up your mind and rush to a golf course or whatever you love as a hobby. But when it comes to Cam Davis what do you do? He was in the news after making his presence felt at the Presidents Cup 2022 last week, and what one does do if you are in his position?

The Australian golfer loves to play disc golf to take away his mind from golf. The 27-year-old got his interest going in disc golf after missing out on the Korn Ferry Tour competition a while ago. He decided to give it a go at the game because there was a course just around the corner for it.

But the Australian golfer wasn’t serious about his hobby until last year following his 2-3-0 result at the Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow in 2021. He and his caddie, Andrew Tschudin, purchased a set of discs and used them in their spare time while travelling during the events.

“I was looking for a hobby to get me out of the hotel room when I have those long afternoons or long mornings off the golf course and don’t have anything else to do,” Davis said.

“And it just kind of grew out of that to find a local course each place we go. It’s just a nice outdoor activity that is relaxing and fun and something that I’m not trying to get like to a professional stand with, obviously go out and enjoy it.

“I guess disc golf to me is what regular golf is to most other people,” the Australian golfer added. “It’s just a fun way to get out and enjoy some time with some buddies, and it’s pretty quick, too.”

Davis watched YouTube to get in-depth knowledge of disc golf. The Professional Disc Golfers Association has more than 90,000 active members all across the world, and the game is played in more than 30 countries.

“So, it works kind of similar to golf in that way,” Davis says. “I think it correlates a little bit to golf but at the same time It’s different enough, so it doesn’t feel like work.”
