Despite having achieved almost everything in the world of golf, Tiger Woods has been through a lot in his personal life. The legendary golfer was the epitome of the American dream and living a plush life before the news of his extramarital affairs was made public, which also led to his divorce with then wife Elin Nordegren.
In November 2009, Woods crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant, and that was the incident that not just harmed him physically but also shattered his golden boy image. At the time, reports already talked about an affair between the golfer and a New York nightclub manager, and the accident confirmed it all in a rather tumultuous way.
The collision Woods made was so loud that it woke up Nordegren, who came running out and broke the car window of the SUV with a golf club to rescue her ex-husband.
After being released from hospital, Woods made a personal statement about the incident and the reports of his extramarital affairs on November 29, 2009.
“This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way, Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible. The only person responsible for the accident is me. My wife, Elin, acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble. She was the first person to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false,” Woods said at the time.
However, after more evidence was released in the form of voice messages and women revealing details of their escapades with Woods, he released another statement: “I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behaviour my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behaviour and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.”

Has Tiger Woods justified his GOAT status?
Let’s face it, Woods has changed the landscape of the game of golf ever since he tip-toed onto the lush green course as a professional in 1996. Before that, Tiger had already announced what the world was yet to witness when he made his name in the junior circuit in some stellar fashion. Although devoid of a major since 2008, Tiger’s footprints in the golfing arena can not be undermined.
Recently, Woods was asked why or how he and some other notable greats such as Maradona and Michael Jordan kind of surpassed their respective professions. Tiger calmly clarified – “I don’t think we’re necessarily bigger than the sport, I think it’s just we’ve had so much success in the sport and I think it’s in the way we’ve done it.”
Lately, the taste of victory has eluded Tiger as he has battled through some personal shitstorms for more than a decade or so. Injuries too have taken a toll on the superstar, but the golfing world is waiting for the comeback of their G.O.A.T and to trust the fans out there, they have more confidence that Woods would be back with a bang. Probably more than Tiger himself has at the moment.
