“We have ‘sports washed’ someone”: Charles Barkley might be taking Greg Norman’s ‘blood money’ to join LIV Golf

After a meeting with LIV Golf’s CEO Greg Norman, NBA Legend Charles Barkley may just be on his way to broadcast the LIV Series. Barkley strongly believes that there is ‘selective outrage’ amongst critics as many of them believe that the money that is sponsoring the tour is not right. However, Barkley believes that several players, tours and celebrities often ignore their own hypocrisy, and are causing a massive targeted outrage.

The LIV Golf Series has announced its new set of members including Henrik Stenson, Jason Kokrak and Charles Howell III. To show that Barkley is actually series about the LIV Series, he will also be playing the Pro-Am portion of the LIV event next week at Trump National in Bedminster, New Jersey. Barkley is expecting for Norman to make an offer soon. Barkley is under contract with TNT’s ‘Inside the NBA’ for three more years and $30 million, according to sources. “In a perfect scenario, I would love to do both,” Barkley said according to News.com.au.

Barkley expects that there will be blowback from Turner’s sponsors. “I told him, ‘Listen, they are making up words, like ‘blood money’ and ‘sports washing.’ I said, ‘We have all taken ‘blood money’ and we all have ‘sports washed’ something so I don’t like those words, to be honest with you. If you are in pro sports, you are taking some type of money from not a great cause,” said Barkley to Norman.

When asked about the NBA’s relationship with China, Barkley said that he pointed it out as a reason to not carry out selective outrage. “I’m a Nike guy, also, so I’m not going to do that thing where I pick and choose what I’m outraged about, where my money comes from. I just don’t think that is fair. I think that makes you a hypocrite.” It would seem that Barkley does have a point, as many fields of sports seem to have associations or issues with ethical and moral dilemmas, and he seems to have pointed it out rather accurately.
