The 2024 Cognizant Classic took place at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where a newcomer Austin Eckroat clinched the champion’s title. Beyond just boasting rights, the tournament offered a generous prize purse that attracted a competitive field of players.

The Cognizant Classic offered an impressive $9 million total purse, ranking it as one of the top-paying non-elevated PGA Tour tournaments. This generous amount ensured a profitable week for all golfers involved, especially the champion who walked away with a sizable prize.

Austin Eckroat emerged as the champion after a thrilling final round conclusion on Monday and clinched the grand prize of $1.62 million. This triumph not only signifies a major milestone in his career but also brings him a substantial financial reward.

Apart from the champion, the other golfers also split a substantial amount of the prize money. Min Woo Lee and Erik van Rooyen, the second-place finishers, were awarded $801,000 each, whereas the golfers tied for fourth place earned $344,250 each. The prize money decreased as the rankings went down, guaranteeing that all players received fair amount for their efforts.

Eckroat quickly made his grip in the final round by securing two early birdies, while tied for the lead with Shane Lowry and David Skinns. Despite a delay in play due to darkness on Sunday, Eckroat remained focused and resumed play on Monday with a narrow lead over Erik Van Rooyen.

Despite the pressure from Min Woo Lee (T2) and Van Rooyen (T2), Eckroat stayed calm and made key birdies on the back nine to increase his lead. A crucial moment was when he hit a precise iron shot on the 12th hole, leading to another birdie and securing his position at the top of the leaderboard.

Eckroat also navigated the difficult “Bear Trap“, clinching his triumph with a cool display in the closing moments. This led to a stroll along the 18th fairway and the prized trophy of a PGA Tour champion. Furthermore, by securing his playing privileges for the next two years, the 25-year-old golfer has also earned a highly anticipated invitation to the esteemed 2024 Masters Tournament.
