“What are these disloyal golfers leaving?”: Colin Cowherd slam PGA Tour, defends LIV Golf defectors
LIV Golf Series.
The newly inaugurated LIV Golf series has caused quite the controversy in the golf world, leaving evident tension between themselves and the PGA Tour. The Series has also seen several golfer make the switch from the PGA, which has resulted in severe disciplinary action against them. However, golfers like Phil Mickelson, Ian Poulter, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed and others have gone ahead and played for the series any which ways. The latest name to join the list is Brooks Koepka, who recently announced that he would be taking part in the LIV Series as well.
In a recent podcast, sports media personality Colin Cowherd talked about his views on the LIV Golf series, ahead of reports of Koepka making the switch. Cowherd said that he roots more for the golfers than the series themselves. “I don’t root for the PGA, I don’t root for boxing. I root for the BOXERS, or individual stars. I was a Greg Norman fan and a Tiger fan. I’m not a fan of the PGA. What is the PGA?”
“We don’t even care to watch most of the Championships”: Colin Cowherd criticises PGA choices, defend LIV Golf
Cowherd went on to criticise the PGA Tour, asking what the defectors were actually leaving behind. “The Masters?… no no, the PGA does not run that. The British Open?… no they don’t run that either. The US Open? The Ryder Cup? PGA Championship? No.” As of today, all golfers are still eligible to play in the Championships that he went on to mention.
As he was reading out what the PGA was responsible for doing, he stopped in the middle to interject his opinion. “We don’t even care or watch most of the championships that the PGA organises. So that’s what they’re leaving?” he quipped. He went on to ask whether the golfers should be loyal to the organisers in their lives. He reasoned that since they are independent contractors they should be loyal to only one thing- money, and that is how they survive.
