There is no denying that Tiger Woods is one of the greatest athletes of this generation. His career wins and achievement speaks volume for themselves. Like many big names, his celebrity lifestyle has been closely followed by many. His life has seen several major scandals off the greens and one of them involved one of his former mistress’ Rachel Uchitel and MLB great Derek Jeter.
Jeter himself is regarded as one of the greatest players and captains seen in MLB. The former New York Yankees captain is well known for his leadership skills and guiding others. He however unwillingly found himself at the center of attendance when he unknowingly guided Uchitel to Woods. This development soon somewhat strained the relationship between them.
Woods had just gone through a divorce with his then-wife Elin Nordegren. There had been a rumor that Woods had been in a relationship with Uchitel and cheating on his wife. This major scandal shook the life of the golf great. His name along with Uchitel would make up the headlines in the next days. During this saga, the name of Jeter got thrown into the mix.
It was he who was the reason for the meeting of the two. Uchitel had suffered massive losses personally in the form of her father and her fiancee. It was in 2008 when she was reported to be dating Jeter. She would meet Woods when he stayed as a guest at the former Yankee captain’ house.
How did Derek Jeter deal with the situation?
During the time of the scandal, Tiger Woods had already established his name as one of the greatest of all time. Fourteen major championships and several PGA Tour wins had made him a larger-than-life star. So it can as no surprise that such a big scandal would have huge complications in his life both on and off the field. The scene between Woods and his former mistress Rachel Uchitel also dragged the name of Derek Jeter.
The MLB star was asked about this time and time again by the press but he kept his stance clear. He kept on saying that he had nothing to do about it. “Man, they are trying to bring me into this thing with Tiger, and I’ve got nothing to do with it,” Jeter was reported to have told a friend. He further added this was the reason he did not get married back then. “You see why I didn’t get married?”.
Since this incident, a lot of things have changed. Uchitel would sign an NDA with Woods and claim her life has become miserable. Woods would suffer a career downfall and went through one of his worst phases. Now he is taking his time off and getting healed in the process following his knee injury.
Meanwhile, Jeter has entered the MLB Hall of Fame and has been happily married with three kids since his fiasco. One now wonders what would have happened if the baseball player never introduced the two to each other. Over the years gone by since this incident, Woods has maintained a healthy friendship with Jeter and has cherished the bond that he could have lost back then.
