The LIV Golf Series has caused its fair share of controversy in the world of golf. The breakaway Saudi backed golf series has been wanting to change the face of golf- but the PGA Tour has not been so kind. Tensions run high amongst golfers as their world is split apart.

Daniel van Otterdijk is the Chief Communications officer at the DP World Tour, and he had a lot to say about the LIV Series. He said that the LIV Series is a friend to the other tours, and are continually talking to the breakaway tour to find a truce.

All golfers that made the switch to the LIV Series have been facing sanctions, especially from the PGA Tour. “Our friends at LIV Golf, we have great contact with them as the game grows in the region. All that needs to get sorted out in the coming months and we will leave that to the governing bodies to sort it out,” said Daniel.

The relationship with LIV Golf however seems to be steady for the DP World tour, as they continue to remain in contact with them. Daniel applauded the freshness that LIV Golf has brought into the world. “I personally think that what LIV Golf has done is bring the game of golf back to the conversation. More people are now asking: ‘What is golf all about?’ ‘What is this new different tour platform going to do?’”

While some people do not like it, it is quite undeniable. Daniel however did mention that he is worried about professional golf after the retirement of Tiger Woods. “I did worry that after Tiger [Woods], he is obviously not playing as much as he used to and eventually he will stop, so what is next? Rory is doing a great job in carrying the baton, but who comes next?”

He believes that LIV Golf has brought into conversation once again what is important for the world of pros. “We think that, like the game of cricket [incorporating the IPL and world leagues]and what other sporting bodies have done, sensibility will prevail and people will talk, and integrating the schedules will prevail.”

“That is only good for the game of golf.” However, it is impossible to say what will actually happen if the different tours were to talk it out. It would though, be beneficial for all to take a step forward for the game of golf, and peacefully co-exist for golfers and fans alike.
