As the countdown for the Super Bowl LVIII builds all the hype, golf fans were eagerly inclining towards Las Vegas for a different reason altogether. Here, the LIV Golf held their second event of the new season where former World No.1 Dustin Johnson clinched victory.

Johnson won the 2024 LIV Golf Vegas event finishing ahead of last season’s champion Talor Gooch. The 2020 Masters Champions finished one stroke ahead of Gooch and Peter Uihlein, who both finished 11-under in second.

The 39-year-old overcame strong windy conditions and top competitors to walk away as the winner. He carded a 1-under 69 in the final round to maintain his lead.

This is now Johnson’s third victory on the Saudi-funded circuit. His previous win came all the way back in May 2023 when he overcame a triple-bogey to force a playoff round and emerged victorious at LIV Golf Tulsa.

Following the event, Johnson acknowledged that he started off shaky and that he was not playing the conditions right.

Tough day. Got off to a little bit of a rocky start. I was hitting really good shots, they were just ending up in poor spots. I was hitting the shots I wanted to, I just was not playing the wind right

Johnson’s victory comes at a time when the Saudi-backed tour’s rivals PGA Tour are hosting the Waste Management Phoenix Open at the TPC Scottsdale. Pointing this out, the fans claimed that “nobody gives a s**t” about them.

Despite the criticism online, Johnson walked away with a prize of $4 million from the $25 million purse event. Speaking of the event, the team championship was won by Brooks Koepka’s led Smash GC largely due to the performances of their captain and recruit Talor Gooch.

LIV Golf will now head to Jeddah for its next event on March 3. After this, the golfers will fly across to Hong Kong next week. Following the LIV Golf Miami event from April 7 to April 9, some of the members will head to the Augusta National to participate in the first major of the year in the Masters.
