The recent announcement of the LIV Golf Series has got caught up in quite the stir of controversy, as the Saudi backed golf series has attracted the attention of many. The LIV Series has also been causing friction amongst golfers and the PGA Tour. It is scheduled to be held from June 9th to 11th, with a whopping purse of $25 million.
While the PGA is not happy with golfers leaving the Tour, it has been reported that some golfers have been paid between $125 to $200 million for just showing up to the Series. Amongst one of these golfers is Dustin Johnson, who has now officially resigned from the PGA Tour to be a part of the LIV Series.
Dustin Johnson will not be allowed to play the Ryder Cup for the US

As the rift between the PGA Golfers and the LIV Series golfers continues to increase, many of the latter seem to face restrictions when it comes to playing other golf. Johnson for example, will not be able to play the Ryder Cup. PGA of America chief executive Seth Waugh said to bbc.com, “If someone wants to play on a Ryder Cup for the US, they’re going to need to be a member of the PGA of America, and they get that membership through being a member of the (PGA) Tour.”
“What the consequences are going to be I can’t comment on how the Tour’s going to handle it. I can’t answer for the majors but hopefully they’re going to allow us to play. Obviously I’m exempt for the majors so I plan on playing there unless I hear otherwise,” said Johnson. Since the Majors are not run by the PGA, and his win at the Masters has given him a lifetime exemption at Augusta, Johnson will be playing there.
Winning the 2016 US Open also means that he will be playing that tournament for the next 10 years. Finally, ish Masters win also gives him a 5 year exemption for The Open and US PGA Championship.
