It has now been more than two months since the merger between PGA Tour and LIV Golf was announced. Since then it has shaped various topics of discussion among players, experts, and fans. The future of the Saudi-funded tour is currently uncertain. Another thing that has dominated the conversations has been the allotment of Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) points.

As of now, LIV Golfers do not receive these points for their participation in LIV events. This has led to huge outrage from the players on seeing their rankings dropdown. On Monday pro golfers Lee Westwood and Eddie Pepperell got caught into a massive Twitter spat involving the OWGR.

It all kicked off when Westwood reacted to a post giving updates on the OWGR rankings. The LIV Golfer laughed off the rankings as LIV players have still not received the points. As per the framework agreement, it was revealed that they will be allotted points in the future event. This led to Pepperell jump into the action and take his first swipe at Westwood.

I will tell you what’s a joke Lee,” the DP World tour member tweeted pointing out how Westwood was making three times more money in one week than any average annual UK salary. He would later take a dig at Westwood’s recent performance at LIV Golf Bedminster where he shoot one 20-under to finish bottom of the standings.

The emergence of LIV Golf has always been a hotly debated topic. Eddie Pepperell himself has attacked the PIF-funded tour and had issued warnings about how they have the potential to steal away talents. He once got stuck in a war of words with Lee Westwood as the duo continued their bickering on Monday. After Pepperell called him out, he would proceed to reply to another user on how golf used to be playing well to earn rewards.

Westwood was not going down without a fight. He would come back at Pepperell and question about PGA Tour preparing the PIP bonus program to reward top players. Pepperell was prepared though and pointed out Westwood went from earning huge bucks to turning into “turnip” over PIP.

The battle was not over that. The two Englishman exchanged a few more insults at each other. The LIV golfer would further call out his fellow countrymen on how good he was at twisting words. Pepperell though was keen on having the last laugh and stated that the sport of golf would have been better if players like Westwood did not join the breakaway tour.

By the time the day was over, the heat between the two cooled down a little. It has not been a good season for Westwood as he has failed to reach a single top-10 finish in LIV events and failed to appear at any majors. One thing for certain is that Pepperell will not back down from further points of such discussions. It would be interesting to watch out for his reaction if the merger goes through.
