“It gets to you”: Grayson Murray breaks club, has 2 meltdowns at 2022 Golf US Open
Grayson Murray at 2022 Golf US Open
The 2022 Golf US Open at the Country Club in Brookline was an exciting tournament indeed. Matt Fitzpatrick took the lead and an eventual victory in what was a very good day for him. However the same cannot be said for golfer Grayson Murray, who suffered a great nightmare to say the least.
With the US Open being one of the most frustrating golf tournaments out there, it is not surprising that someone fell prey to the course. Murray was well out of contention in the final round of the Open. However disaster struck for him as he hit a quadruple bogey on the 7th hole, dropping him to 12+ in the championship. With frustration evident on his face, Murray went ahead and threw his putter into the nearby grass.

The throw was a lucky one to say the least, as there were no spectators or officials around to bear the brunt of it. However that was not the end of the meltdown, as Murray saw himself full of frustration once again. This time it was even more extreme, as he triple bogeyed at hole 9 to put him at a +15. He proceeded to break his club over his knee in the shocking incident.
“The U.S. Open is a very difficult task,” said Steve Sands according to mediaite.com. “But it’s made worse when you’re letting it get to you like that. To that other commentator Justin Leonard replied, “That’s what a U.S. Open can do to you sometimes.”
