“I’m a bit surprised, actually”: Greg Norman shocked over Kevin Na’s decision to resign from the PGA Tour
Kevin Na
The recent Saudi backed LIV Golf Series has been causing quite the friction amongst golfers and the PGA Tour. The LIV Golf Series is scheduled to be held from June 9th to 11th, with a whopping purse of $25 million.
Famous names including Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood are on the list. Amongst these names is also Kevin Na, who resigned from the PGA Tour to attend the series. He announced his resignation from the PGA Tour on social media. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan had earlier told pro golfers that they might face disciplinary action for attending the LIV Series. Na was among the 42 players initially named in the field for the controversial series.
The PGA Tour has refused to grant players any required release for the series. However, Greg Norman has promised to “defend, reimburse and represent” any players sanctioned if they play regardless according to skysports.com.
Greg Norman surprised by Kevin Na’s decision to resign from the PGA Tour
“I’m a bit surprised, actually,” Norman said. “The players don’t have to resign from the Tour. That was Kevin’s decision for whatever reason he wanted to make it.” Norman has said that he would back up the players all that he needed to, and give them rights to do what they wanted as independent contractors.
“I respect the man for making a bold decision. I respect the person for wanting to come on board with us, because he knows he has a great opportunity with LIV. I’ll applaud him for it, but he didn’t have to, from our behalf, because LIV would be there (for him).” However, the $25 million series will be a great one to play for, for all the players that will be a part of it.
