Though PGA is seen as a men’s tour, there are no gender requirements for it and both male and female players can make the. There is no rule against women in these events, but as of now, only six women have competed in the PGA Tour events and only one has made the cut.

And it is none other than the legendary Babe Didrikson Zaharias. Arguably one of the greatest athletes of all time, Babe Zaharias not only played golf but also represented America in baseball, basketball and in track and field events. The former athlete went on to win two gold medals in track and field at the 1932 Summer Olympics before she took up golf as a sport.

Zaharias first tried her luck when she entered Cascades Open in 1935. But, unfortunately, she missed the cut. She didn’t give up and tried her hand at the Chicago Open in 1937, but without any luck.

But for the American golfer, failure was never an option. She went on to create history when she qualified for the so-called men’s professional golfing tour in 1938 at the Los Angeles Open.

Zaharias, who was seen as a latecomer to the world of golf, then made a habit of making a cut on the PGA Tours. She went on to qualify for the Phoenix Open in 1945 and the Tucson Open. The golfer, who passed away when she was just 45 in 1956, featured in the last PGA Tour event at the Los Angeles Open in 1946 but did not make the cut.

When it comes to her golfing career, Zaharias won 10 women’s majors and a total of 40 events during her successful career where she surely made herself and the country proud. She was also one of the 13 members who founded The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA).
