Hideki Matsuyama created history in 2021 when he won his first Major championship as a man from Japan. The Japanese star, who was taught the game by his father, spent a week in 2012 as the top amateur in the world, winning the Asian Amateur Championship in 2010 and 2011.
As he sealed his place on the PGA Tour over the years, Matsuyama has risen up the ranks to currently sit at no. 12 on the World Golf Rankings. However, recently he was rumoured to be ready to make the switch from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf, along with the likes of Cameron Young, Cameron Smith and Harold Varner III.
The recent PGA Tour Championship saw Rory McIlroy raise the trophy for the third time, the next on the list is the President’s cup- which will see golfers from both the LIV Series and the PGA Tour compete together for a rather awkward time of three days.
Hideki Matsuyama will not be switching series anytime soon
While Hideki Matsuyama was rumoured to soon make the switch, new surfacing news has come that he might not be doing that. According to Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press, Matsuyama will be staying on with the PGA Tour, and has backed out of the LIV Golf series. This comes as crucial news, especially considering that he was not invited to the top Players PGA Tour meeting that took place a few weeks ago.
Ferguson reported that Matsuyama, who won twice this season at the Zozo Championship and Sony Open in Hawaii, confirmed his commitment to the PGA Tour after his final round at the Tour Championship. Matsuyama finished T-11 and won $925,000.
