The historic 150th Open has taken off at St. Andrews at the Old Course. As some of the most famous golfers tee off on the very first day, the crowd is in for a treat. Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and their likes take off, some others did not get the warm welcome the others did. Amongst these was Ian Poulter, who got heavily booed on his tee off during the first round of the Open.
The boos were extremely evident for the LIV Golf defector as he took his place at 7:15 am in the morning. This visibly and rightfully threw him off, as Poulter snap-hooked his tee shot, almost losing his ball out of bounds- which is almost impossible under normal circumstances.

Poulter managed to thankfully save par, and the day turned better for him as he finished three under 69. “I actually thought I had a great reception on the 1st tee, to be honest,” Poulter said according to Golf Digest. “All I heard was clapping.” Asked again about the boos, Poulter remarked, “Oh, my gosh, I have heard not one heckle. In three weeks, I’ve heard nothing.”
Pressed on a little bit more, Poulter remarked further. “You lot can write whatever you like about being heckled and booing. You’ve walked 18 holes. Did you hear one comment? You can write whatever you like.” The Open Championship is certainly an exciting one, and everyone is looking forward to the competition it has to offer.
