Ian Poulter slams Swedish Golf Federation over removal of Henrik Stenson: ‘I hope you regret this’
Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson
Days after the Swedish Golf Federation decided to break ties with the former No.2 Henrik Stenson, longtime friend and now fellow LIV golfer Ian Poulter took to Twitter to express his frustration on the matter.
“Beyond disappointing to hear this news. I actually hope the juniors/disability golfers have their say. I hope you regret this SGF” Poulter tweeted. “The greatest Swedish male golfer. The Open Champ, 2 X Race to Dubai winner, FedEx Cup champ, Players Champ. Just to name a few of Henrik Stenson’s wins,” he added.
Stenson, who has been an ambassador for Para and junior Golf in his native nation, was stripped off the Ryder’s Cup captaincy before the SGF decided to divorce him.

” I hope Junior/Disability Golfers have their say”: Ian Poulter on SGF
“We believe that Henrik, given his involvement with LIV Golf, can no longer act as a role model for Swedish junior golfers,” SGF’s secretary general said on account of his move to his move to the Saudi-backed league.
The reply from 2016 Open Champion was, “Naturally, we are disappointed that the SGF feel that our commitment and financial support via the Henrik Stenson Foundation is no longer wanted. ‘But this will in no way impact our drive to develop junior and paragolf in Sweden”.
The move by the federation was not well received by the fans either. One asked, “This is where the debate kicks in. Stenson has done many good things in his professional life, using his celebrity to great effect. Is all of that null and void because he plays on the LIV Tour?” Some others called it a “pathetic” decision.
