Tiger Woods goes senior? Jack Nicklaus strongly hints that the golfing legend might retire from PGA Tour

When will Tiger Woods retire? This question has been going around for the longest of times. As the golfing legend gets older and is plagued with issues since his accident, it seems harder for him to cope as each tournament goes by. With each passing year Woods has reduced the amount of tournaments he is playing. He took an eight month long break at the end of 2022, and only returned recently to play at the Riviera.

The next time we might see Woods playing will be at the Augusta Nationals. This also brings up the question, will Tiger Woods play the PGA Tour in 2025, when he reaches the age of 50? Jack Nicklaus seemed to have an answer for this question, speaking about it on Sir Nick Faldo’s “Sir Nick Roundtable Chats.” Both were reminiscing about Woods’ accident and its repercussions, when the topic suddenly sprung up.

Speaking about Woods using a cart during Tournaments, Nicklaus said, “I told him, ‘Tiger, you’re eligible to take a cart.’ He says, ‘I’m not going to do that.’ He says, ‘When I get to the senior tour, I will.’” To that, Faldo asked Nicklaus if Woods would actually make it to 50 on the current PGA Tour, and Nicklaus has quite the things to say.

“He wants to play the senior tour,” Nicklaus replied. “Well, he’s a competitor,” Nicklaus continued. That was probably meant to be a secret. Woods however, might have given several hints about playing on the senior tour. Take the PNC Championship for example. Woods was asked about using the cart after his injury. “On the PGA Tour, no. On the sanctioned events where it’s allowed, yes, which is the Champions Tour, PNC, things of that nature.”

Senior Tour players are allowed to use the cart. Those on the PGA Tour must apply with valid reasoning to actually use one. Woods playing on the Champions Tour makes sense. It will bring a boost of popularity to the Tour- one that it has not seen before. However, when Woods will actually join the Champions Tour is up to him.

Woods has been struggling to play golf, especially since his car accident in February 2021. The images of the brutal crash left the world stunned, and wondering whether he would ever play golf again. However, he made his return to the PGA Tour, and the entire world celebrated his comeback. “It’s been tough, but I’ve gotten here, I’ve gotten this far and I still have a long way to go,” he said when he played at the Riviera for the first time after his accident.

“Each and every day’s a fight, and I welcome that fight. Get up in the morning, let’s go a few more rounds.” Woods journey back to the Tour has been an inspiring one. However, since then his problems have become worse. He has had back problems and trouble walking throughout the golf course. With the frequency of him playing tournaments reducing by the month, is it time for Woods to retire from the PGA Tour?
