The PGA Tour has recently announced changes to its 2024 rules and regulations. Needless to say, the rules are turning a lot of heads, with them being reminiscent of a golf league that is not liked by many. Several players and fans are comparing the new rules to now be a copy of the LIV Golf series rules, and it might just be looking that way.
The PGA Tour has cut down on the number of players in the field to make it no cut tournaments. They have also increased the cash prize with the field now being limited to a maximum of 70- 78 people. Now, James Hahn, a 2 time PGA Tour winner is criticising the changes in the PGA Tour rules.
Hahn is disappointed in the rules change to say the least. “I use the word popular instead of best players because, granted that Tiger is one of the best players to ever have played this game, but he just won the PIP money two years running without really playing golf, without being ranked in the top 1,000 and without keeping his card,” Hahn said talking about the smaller fields for next year.

The chance for players to qualify for an event are now lesser, as the PGA Tour tries to set up a consistent routine with those who are at the top of the board. “I’m gonna say exactly what 99.99 percent of fans said about players leaving for the LIV Tour. If our players just said, ‘We’re doing this for the money,’ I would have a lot more respect for them.”
Hahn says that he lost respect for the PGA Tour because now it feels like they are doing it for the money too. Not only that, it feels like they are trying to cover up why they are making these changes. “But how they’re covering up what they’re doing and trying to make it a thing about sponsors and fans and saving opposite-field events. I think that’s all BS,”
“All the big names that are talking about this ‘new product,’ if you just came out and said, ‘Hey, we’re doing this for the money,’ they want more guaranteed money and this is another way to funnel more money to the top players in the world, I’d have a lot more respect for them,” said Hahn.
“Right now, they’re just covering their a– and saying everything that the PGA Tour basically has trained them to say.” Hahn now believes that there will be 2 different levels created in the PGA Tour because of the rules. Those competing at the top will continue to win more and more money and play all the tournaments. On the other hand, those at the bottom will not be a part of the a lot of events, further making the gap larger.
