Jim Furyk named in US Ryder Cup squad as the vice captain of the team

On Monday, it was announced that Jim Furyk will participate in the US squad for the Ryder Cup. He will join as one of the vice-captains for the major event in Italy this year. His experience and leadership at the golf course are one of the major reasons for his inclusion. This development comes just a few days after he was named captain of the US Team at the 2024 Presidents Cup.
He will join the likes of Steve Stricker and Davis Love III as vice-captains. The team will be led by Zach Johnson, who will be heading to Rome. As per reports, the PGA of America has informed that more vice-captains will be revealed in the future. Furyk has a wealth of experience in this competition, having taken part in nine successive editions since 1997. He also served as a captain in the year 2018 and was the vice-captain in 2016 and 2021.
“Jim and I have been friends for more than 20 years. He’s an amazing leader, mentor and someone I trust. He understands what it takes to compete at the highest level and how to be a team player,” WION quoted Johnson praising Furyk. He is a 17-time winner on the PGA tour, and his resume speaks volumes for itself.

What is the Ryder Cup and when is it going to take place this year?
The Ryder Cup is one of the most famous and prestigious golfing tournaments. It is a biennial men’s competition that is played between teams in the United States and Europe. It takes place every two years, and the hosts are altered between the two. The tournament is organized by the PGA of America and Ryder Cup Europe and usually takes place between late September and early October.
This year the Ryder Cup will take place in the city of Rome in Italy. The event is scheduled to place from September 29 to October 1. The competition will be played at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome. In 21 previous meetings, the US has won 9 times, including the last one, compared to Europe’s 11 wins. The event has also seen one tie. The 1989 event finished with both teams level, and due to it, Europe retained the title.
The last edition of the tournament saw the US win the competition 19-9 at the Whistling Straits. An interesting fact regarding the US is that they have not won a competition on European land since 1993 when they won under the leadership of Tom Watson. Could this be the year at the end of this run?
