Jim Rutledge got the news of his life on a rather ordinary day. Getting a call from the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame’s selection committee made every sportsman’s dreams come true. Ted Fletcher told Rutledge that he had finally made it- made it into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame!

Jim Rutledge is now all ready to be inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. Joining him will be reporter Robert Stanley Weir. This would make them the 84th and 85th members. Rutledge has been around the world, competing at possibly every level of golf you could imagine. However, he was still shocked when he heard the great news.

“I stopped the lawn mower, sat down on it for a second and said ‘hey wait a second, what’s going on?’” said Rutledge. “I tried to compare it to some little kid that was playing a little bit too shallow in left field playing baseball and some guy hit a line drive over his head,” he said in disbelief.

Jim Rutledge could not comprehend what had just happened. “It just caught me right off guard. It took a while to absorb the whole proceedings. At the end of the day I was overwhelmed by it.” The induction ceremony will be held during the Canadian Open. The sole PGA stop of the county will also mark the induction for 6th February 2023.

A win at the 1975 Canadian Junior Championship and saw Jim begin his career. He turned professional soon after. Not only was he a member of the DP World Tour but also competed multiple times in the British Open. He earned PGA Tour status for the first time in 2007, after winning the Korn Ferry tour in 2006.

He also became the second oldest PGA Rookie to compete on tour. He continued playing for over 40 years since. “Longevity is the love of the game, I think, and enjoying the travelling. Trying to stay in decent shape to do it, I think is very, very important.”

Reporter Robert Stanley Weir is being posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame. He has written about golf for 20 years.“It’s a tribute to journalism and the importance that journalists play in the game of golf,” said Fletcher. “It’s so important that there be a voice in the game.”
