John Daly has been vocal about his gambling and alcohol addictions in the past, and categorizes it as a phase of life when he didn’t know how to deal with success. The American golfer once got so drunk or let’s say buoyant while playing casino that he got led by a group of South African rugby fans into playing a footie game right at the back of the bar.

And boy did Daly get himself into trouble! The now 56-year-old maverick, who has always been known for his long hair and flamboyant style, got huddled by the rugby fans so wildly that he had a concussion from the incident.

The casino incident was also recently recounted by former golfer Steve Elkington on Golf.com’s Subpar podcast. The South African rugby fans supposedly pushed Daly so bad that he had to be helped by his mate Elkington to sit on the stairs. “I say (to Daly), ‘Mate, are you ok?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I’m fine,’”  Elkington revealed on the podcast.

Daly recently revealed how he once led a pompous lifestyle that was heading towards a grand fall.

“I thought I had the world by the b*llsIt got to a point, ‘Scr*w this, I’ll go to a bar, get drunk and deal with this tomorrow.’ I got lazy, I didn’t work on the game like I needed to,” Daly said.

In March 2008, Daly’s swing coach Butch Harmon called it quits, claiming that “the most important thing in (Daly’s) life is getting drunk.”

Then, in December 1992, the golfer was charged with third-degree assault for throwing ex-wife Bettye Fulford into a wall at their home near Denver.

On June 8, 2007, Daly and his fourth wife Sherrie Miller landed into a fight at a restaurant in Memphis, Tennessee, site of that week’s tour stop, the Stanford St. Jude Championship. Daly claimed his wife attacked him with a steak knife later on the same night. In shocking scenes, the golfer showed up for his second round of the tournament on Friday afternoon with cuts and scrapes across his face.

All things done, and despite all the ups and downs in his career, Daly still competes on the PGA Tour.
